Founded in 2007, NEXESS has its head office and R&D laboratory at the heart of Sophia-Antipolis technology park, on the French Riviera. Our company implements traceability and identification solutions using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology in the Aeronautics, Space, Microelectronics, Defense, Energy, and Transport sectors, with over 2,000 solutions already deployed.

Our teams have an in-depth understanding of our customers’ businesses, particularly when it comes to the management of connected objects and their specific demands (periodic controls, monitoring and traceability regulations, etc.). We implement enterprise IoT solutions for Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Operations and Maintenance. These different solutions respond to the problems and challenges faced by manufacturers seeking an IoT industry solution to increase their performance in terms of productivity, quality, and safety, in a sustainable, long-term manner.

Who are we?

NEXESS was founded on the desire to improve existing processes using the Internet of Things (IoT), where traditional solutions show their limitations.

NEXESS is a pioneer in the use of IoT in the industrial field, and paved the way for IoT as early as 2007, with the launch of its connected solutions for the nuclear industry.
Since it was founded in 2007, NEXESS has developed and marketed complete IoT industry solutions enabling manufacturers to improve their productivity across their entire value chain, thanks to real-time communication between objects, people and processes.

Our IoT technology is geared toward data valorization and the provision of reliable indicators for managing industrial activities. The NEXESS connected ecosystem allows manufacturers to operate with visibility and anticipation.

The NEXESS adventure

2006 – A challenge that paves the way

It all begins in the nuclear field. Frédéric Galtier, CEO and founder of NEXESS, at the time an expert analyst in nuclear safety within EDF’s Nuclear Production Department, finds himself faced with complex nuclear safety issues. He proposes a new technology-based approach to provide innovative solutions where traditional approaches show their limitations.
His innovation is acknowledged by EDF’s “Nuclear Challenges – Performance and Innovation” award. NEXESS is about to be born.

2007 – Impetus & Founding

Supported by EDF’s Nuclear Production Department, Frédéric Galtier joins EDF’s strategic spin-off program and founds NEXESS.
Considered as one of the leading technology start-ups, NEXESS joins Sophia Antipolis’s TELECOM ParisTech incubator, benefiting from the support of this digital-sector benchmark to kick start the development of its technology.

2008 – It all begins via the Nuclear sector.

To advance its development, NEXESS joins the IncubAlliance tech incubator in Orsay, set up by prestigious higher education and research institutions and industrial companies.

NEXESS equips French nuclear plants with its IoT solutions. NEXESS’s IoT technology safeguards industrial facilities subject to severe environmental constraints, thanks to “rugged” RFID tags which can be used in ionizing environments, explosive atmospheres, or at high temperatures of up to 400°C. NEXESS’s IoT products offer genuine innovation in data collection and real-time traceability for flows of people, objects and processes.

2009 – Entry into the Petrochemical sector

In 2009, NEXESS, having successfully launched in the nuclear sector, accelerates its development in Seveso-classified industries, particularly in the chemical and petrochemical fields.

2010 – Fundraising operation demonstrates confidence

NEXESS raises €1 million to expand its R&D strategy and accelerate its commercial development. This financial operation was overseen by CEA Investissement and Primaveris.

“We were impressed by the expertise of NEXESS and the quality of its safety solutions for industrial facilities”, observes Frédéric Martin, investment manager at CEA Investissement. “The work carried out in collaboration with CEA enabled the company to extend the scope of its products in the harshest environments.”

NEXESS receives the award for best start-up at the European RFID Awards.

2011 – Deployment in Aeronautics & Space

Deployed in the nuclear sector to prevent, in particular, the risk of FME (Foreign Material Exclusion), NEXESS IoT solutions also meet the requirements of the aeronautical and space industry for managing the risk of FOD (Foreign Object Damage).
NEXESS equips assembly lines, maintenance hangars, and industrial stores for key customers in aeronautics, space, and defense, including aircraft manufacturers, equipment makers, and MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations).

2013 – NEXESS carries out a second fundraising operation

NEXESS, having developed thanks to IoT technology based around data valorization and the provision of reliable indicators for managing industrial activities, raises €2.5 million with Seventure Partners and PACA Investissement to accelerate deployment of its enterprise IoT solutions internationally and conquer new business sectors.

2014 – NEXCAP® IOT expansion

NEXESS focuses on developing a connected ecosystem that allows manufacturers to operate with visibility and anticipation, and deploys NEXCAP® IOT, a turnkey solution combining products, software, and services to optimize the performance and safety of operations and maintenance systems on industrial sites.

2015 – Second office opens in Paris

NEXESS, headquartered in Sophia Antipolis, opens a new office in Paris. The Paris office further strengthens the NEXESS network, helping it secure new opportunities and enabling NEXESS to work more closely with its customers. The decision to open a second office in Paris reflects the growing importance of business digitalization and IoT in the industrial market.

2016 – Deployment in microelectronics

Drawing on its experience in industrial resource safeguarding and traceability, NEXESS deploys its clean-room solutions in the microelectronics sector.

2017 – Third office opens in Toulouse

NEXESS chooses Toulouse for its third national base, a strategic decision to position itself at the heart of the civil aeronautics industry. This new location highlights the company’s growth, as it establishes itself as the leader in industrial IoT.

2018 – E.A.U. Dubaï

NEXESS continues its international development by collaborating and implementing its industrial IoT solutions with key aeronautics customers in the UAE.

2019 – NEXESS wins a major contract to equip Aeronautical assembly chains

Connected to the customer’s internal network, NEXESS RFID Smart Cabinets on aeronautical assembly chains enable a new form of integrated management for more than 20,000 tools.

2020 – NEXESS continues to diversify

NEXESS continues to diversify in the rail transport, electronics, and defense sectors.

2021 – Global expansion of Smart Cabinets

After successful deployment, NEXESS extends and standardizes its RFID Smart Cabinets to other sites in the aeronautics and electronics sector, where they have proven their worth and efficiency thanks to advanced IoT technology providing smart access control, automated inventory, automated tracking of calibration and maintenance dates, and remote supervision.

2022 – NEXESS is increasingly international

NEXESS is expanding, and moves to larger premises in the heart of the Sophia-Antipolis technology park to accommodate our larger “Winning Team”.
NEXESS continues its international expansion, opening an office in North America.

Industry 4.0

The present and future are the focus of our attention

Industry 4.0 is leading us to entirely new processes, such as automated and interconnected production. Our RFID and IoT expertise revolves around the harnessing of data and connectivity.

IoT (Internet of Things)

Our products include sensors, software, and technologies which connect to other terminals and systems. The network of physical terminals constitutes the “things”, in the term “Internet of Things”. These “things” continuously exchange information.

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Expert

At NEXESS, we have created a range of RFID products designed for industry: smart cabinets and roller cabinets, smart portals and counters, as well as solutions for mobile devices such as tablets.

What lies behind our expertise?

By combining the hardware and software performance of our products with our unique self-designed traceability process, we can guarantee 100% traceability in our roller cabinets and cabinets.

This process involves two successive phases.

  • First, there is RFID tagging (tag selection, positioning, material, and attachment, followed by performance validation on our RFID test bench).
  • Next comes the RFID layout phase in the smart cabinets or roller cabinets, which consists of positioning in line with best practice, performance validation using our RFID analysis tool Smartlayout, and equipping with pre-cut foam organizers adapted to the tools, or with hooks, trays, or boxes.

We use unique, highly effective technical resources, working in collaboration with a research laboratory that specializes in radio frequencies. We also use dedicated test benches for RFID performance measurement.

Drawing on feedback from industry, we have established a tried and tested methodology. When it comes to tag selection, RFID performance criteria, tool ergonomics, optimal attachment durability, or specific environmental constraints, we know everything there is to know!
